| To send us YOUR comments, email us at: feedback@shunyata.com June 2007 Hello again Matt, I had the Orion speaker cables roasting on the cable cooker until Saturday morning, and I took 'em out and put them in the system. Was busy all day Saturday, so I just let them play in the system until Sunday afternoon. They're probably not all the way broken-in, but they should be close. April 2004 April 2004 April 2004 As for cables... I spent about 20 minutes with Galen's demo pair of Phoenix and was completely blown away. They walk all over the Transparent Super and Ultra that are in the same price range. More amazingly, though, they walked all over the Reference XL SS that I thought was unbeatable. So far this is the best "value" in cables that I've been able to find. It's nice to see a no BS company that charges a fair price for an excellent product. BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL, Mr. Gabriel has done it again! The Andromeda speaker cable with Ag spades (after 200 hrs break-in) became the most Luscious, Spacious, Musically Correct Cable I've EVER heard. Trust me, I've listened to many high-end cables. If you are seriously looking for "The Best" you have it in the Andromeda. Please note that the Aries interconnect (balanced) quickly replaced my Valhallas last year. If you need futher input please contact me. So here is my report: It is F_CKING GREAT!!!! Nuff said? Okay, I know you want a 30-page report but here is the executive summary: When I first started with the cable, I cheated and listened before 25 hours, I immediately noticed a clarity and quiet background that I had never heard in my system. This was evident in my ability to hear low level sounds, to hear echoes I had not heard before, to hear more of the fade of a guitar string. It translated into better imaging than I had ever heard. Instruments were not just front to back or on one side or the other, but had their distinct places. They were less gelled. There was more air around the pieces. And the bass was deeper. Instruments that sounded thin now had body and character. After over 25 hours of playing time, I was floored, or, more accurately pinned in my seat. After fiddling with the turntable, I put one of the albums that I love and use to evaluate system changes, Joni Mitchell, Court and Spark. I have played it so much and my system has improved so greatly over the years, that I listen for relatively small changes. I do not expect after some 30 years of listening to this album that I will hear something dramatically different. But I did. And what I heard I did not expect. There was an additional tone from her voice a whole part of her vocals that I had never heard. It sounded like a woman's voice. Where did that come from? I thought, "Now, this is what live sounds like." Yes, I know intellectually that it doesn't equate to live but that is how the change struck me. I was nailed to my seat. I couldn't move. How could I have missed all of that sound? So I played another piece that I love and that I have had trouble noticing changes from -- as though I had max'd out what is on the album -- a DG recording of the second movement of Bach's Double Violin concerto in D Minor. Again, I was stunned. The violins had a richness and sweetness that I had never heard. I asked my wife if she noticed any change with the cable. She had not been listening except as background music and she thought my system sounded great before -- certainly good enough. She had noticed. She said the music sounded fuller. She is correct. The music is richer in the sense that it is more complete. It is not lush. The cable just puts through the music completely and effortlessly. The detail is there but instead of making it sterile, the cable fills in the music -- giving each note its part so the whole is the musical piece that I think was intended. Am I getting carried away? Maybe. But that is the thought I had as I listened. It was as though the small parts that hadn't been there completed the picture to give me a fuller aural ? and emotional ? experience. Based on what I have heard, I want to listen to all the recordings that I have played and loved over the years. The cable makes me feel as though I am hearing familiar pieces for the first time. Long beta tester review of Constellation Series cables compared to FMS Zero. I want to thank you for the Constellation Series speaker cable. I have to confess, though, I have been listening. I immediately noticed a more quiet background and more low level detail. I could hear echoes I had not noticed, subtle changes -- more information -- as strings vibrated and an overall greater clarity in the music and words. The stage became larger and better layered, and the the instruments more precisely placed. This music seemed more effortless. On my next listening session, I noticed much deeper bass. In general, the tones of the instruments were fuller -- after listening through your cable, the sound I remembered through my Coincident CST-I speaker cable seemed thin. Guitars now have a punch, a twang, a realism that I have not had before. Piano has never sounded close to this good. Perhaps the most telling moment came when I put on an older re-release (non-audiophile) of two Gene Ammons albums. I had started to play this album twice before and each time stopped because the music was thin - an imitation of the instruments -- and was un-involving. I put it on, sat back and... wow oh wow oh wow. Where did that sax come from? And how about the piano? And the bass -- I didn't even notice it before. Everything came alive. So, with even less than 25 hours, I find the cables to be revealing music that I have not heard through my system -- in a significant way. I received the Aries ICs from the West Coast later in the day this past Wednesday and have now tried this single pair out at home in various spots. As you know, I am more than tickled with all my power cords from Shunyata but was skeptical of the company's ability to compete with manufacturers with so much more experience. To my considerable surprise, this "budget" IC from Shunyata easily outgunned the Transparent Ultras. And not just a little bit. As they say, the differences are not subtle. Given the vast difference in price, these listening results were ear-opening. I've not ever before heard so great a difference at home between ICs. The Ultras have now been [permanently] relegated to the sound system in our study (an LS22 with the 7Bs). By comparison, the Aries conveys a much more defined bass; a far (FAR) more delicate lower treble; "lighter" upper treble; highly musical midrange; greater detail overall (I even have to say that on 2 of the first 3 discs I played, I heard things I'd NEVER heard thru the Ultras); the Aries also transmits a more sustained, i.e. musically natural decay -- even on CDs; there is more "air" between all musical lines, whether notes were from the same instrument [piano] or multiple instruments/voice. My impression is also one of considerable speed, too. Dynamic, from ppp to fff, also became fully noticeable with the Aries WOW. I love the Aries. This is Mike in Seattle. I have been using the new Shunyata Constellation Series speaker cable now for almost two weeks. Really think they are great... They blow the Transparent Ultra that I was using completely away. Thanks so much for helping me to find them. Sensational products as well as incredible customer support. You don't realize how much musical info is missing until you try Shunyata products. Highly recommended!! |
